The Beautiful Case for Writing a Letter to Your Facebook Friends

The following is from the heartfelt new book Dear Dana: That Time I Went Crazy and Wrote All 580 of My Facebook Friends a Handwritten Letter. Author Amy Daughters chronicles her real-life journey of reconnecting on Facebook with Dana, her childhood friend from camp, only to learn devastating news about Dana’s ill son. What ensues is powerful and heartfelt. Amy begins to write handwritten letters to her old friend, encouraging her to stay strong. And that’s only the beginning—the author eventually reaches out to every one of her Facebook contacts, penning a handwritten note to all 580 of them.   ...

Dear September Letters Community,

Dear September Letters Community,

A quote that had always resonated with us is from Brene Brown. It says,
“One day you will tell your story and how you got through it. That story will be a part of someone else’s survival guide.” We at September Letters have always believed in this quote sums up our mission and our belief in the power of connection.

To showcase this, we wrote a book (https://septemberletters.com/book/)! We hope our book September Letters: Finding Strength and Connection in Sharing Our Stories becomes a tool in your toolbox. We have found through creating this book that our stories unite us and help us through tough times.

We are celebrating turning THREE! Look at what a community YOU have built. We are so proud of everyone who has shared a story, wrote a survival guide or read a letter that made them feel more connected.

SEPTEMBER LETTERS

Everyone has a story

September letters is a mental health awareness and letter writing experience.

Your September Letter is a therapeutic letter writing experience.

It can be as simple as an inspirational quote, a lyric in a song, something that moved you or a story of how you overcame a certain time in your life. It can be a letter to someone you love, a letter to yourself as a kid or even to a (once) imaginary friend!

Get help:

We understand we sometimes need more support than writing and reading letters. We all experience hard times. But you are not alone. If you or someone you know is struggling, there are many forms of support. If you or a loved one is in immediate danger, call 911. It is important to notify the operator that it is a psychiatric emergency and ask for an officer trained to assist people  experiencing a psychiatric emergency. Note: We do not provide any medical advice of any nature.
