Summer Camp Staff

A summer spent on the staff at Maumee Reservation is one of the most memorable experiences of a lifetime.  Every successful summer camp year has owed its success to its camp staff.  You could be part of the success this year, and join a great tradition started over a century ago.

Over 1,000 young people and their leaders will pass through the camp gates expecting a great adventure.  The camp staff is there to make their adventure the best that it can be.  This can mean long hours, irksome tasks, and weighty responsibilities, but if kept in perspective, it will be fun.

Do you have valuable skills to offer?  Are you mature enough and dedicated enough to offer cheerful service when deep inside you’d rather be in bed?  Are you ready to accept responsibility for your own actions – good and bad?  Are experience, fellowship, and serving others more important to you than salary?  Are you ready for a highly challenging summer?  Think about it!

If you are ready to be a member of the camp staff, please submit our new online Camp Staff Application as soon as possible.  Camp Staff Interviews are held in January and February.

2013 Council Training Courses

The Council Training Committee is excited to announce plans for two of our leadership training courses for 2013. Look for registration information to be posted to www.HoosierTrailsBSA.org by the first of the year.

  • National Youth Leadership Training or NYLT is an intense weeklong youth oriented leadership training experience sponsored by the Hoosier Trails Council and held annually in and around Maumee Scout Reservation. The training is conducted by highly qualified youth staff under the supervision of adult advisors using National Youth Leadership Training Course syllabus, as published by the National Council, Boy Scouts of America. The 2013 course will run June 9 -14, and is open to Boy Scouts, Varsity Scouts, and Venturers.
  • WOOD BADGE for the 21st Century is intended for all leaders in Scouting – Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Varsity Scout and Venturing leaders, as well as council and district leaders.  The focus is on leadership, not outdoor skills.  The object is to demonstrate the aims and methods of Scouting through the presentation of leadership skills, organizational tools, and a variety of activities based on the best of Scouting traditions and the latest in team-development theory.  In addition, participants will enjoy the fellowship of sharing the experience with volunteer and professional Scouters while having a great deal of just plain fun.

This will be a tremendous opportunity for you to

  • Understand Scouting as a family of interrelated, values-based programs providing age-appropriate activities for youth.
  • Recognize contemporary leadership concepts used in America and discover how those concepts are relevant to our values-based movement.
  • Apply the skills you learn from your participation as a member of a successful working team.
  • Revitalize your commitment to Scouting by sharing in an inspirational experience that helps Scouting with renewed leadership to accomplish its mission.

Many Scouters consider Wood Badge to be a peak experience of their Scouting careers.  It has served as a source of training and inspiration to thousands.  In return, Wood Badge participants have positively affected the lives of millions of America’s youth.

The course will be conducted at Maumee Scout Reservation over six full days in two three-day sessions August 23 - 25 and September 20 - 22, 2013.  The fee is $220.00 which covers meals, supplies and copyright fees. If the fee is paid in full by May 31, 2013, the fee is only $200, saving you $20.
