High Adventure

DON'T MISS THIS ONE-TIME OPPORTUNITY!
Grand Canyon Council has an immediate opening for 6 to 8 Scouts and 2 Adult Advisors to fill a crew going to Philmont Scout Ranch this summer.  The trip will leave Phoenix the morning of June 20th and return to Phoenix on July 3rd.  During that time you will have a chance to hike in some of the most beautiful wilderness areas in the Southwest.  There are staffed camps to demonstrate such things as black-powder rifles, homestead living, horseback rides, gold mine tours and gold panning, mountain peaks of 11,000 to 12,000 feet elevation, archaeology, Dutch Oven cooking, beaver trapping during the 1850's, hand-cutting railroad ties, spar pole climbing…the list is endless.  Most Scouts who attend Philmont say that it was the most exciting experience of their Scouting career.
Just go to the Grand Canyon website and select "Outdoor Programs", then "Camping", then "High Adventure", then National High Adventure Bases", then "Philmont Scout Ranch", then "2014 Philmont Registration".  This opportunity just came up and likely will not last very long so better hurry.  For more information contact John Butler, High Adventure Counselor and john@arizonascoutingmuseum.orgClick here for details and to register.

Scout Executive Minute

The Value of the Scout Camp Experience - a story recently shared with me…

Hello Troop Parents,
What I want to tell you is WHY your son should attend Camp Geronimo.
As a parent, I know there are competing interests with 4th of July celebrations, family vacations and other activities.  All these compete with packing your son off to Boy Scout camp and having done that with two sons of my own, I understand the conflicts.
BUT Geronimo is worth the complication of taking your scout out of a few days of summer school or delaying the family vacation.  He won't miss the fireworks on the fourth!
For the rest of the story click here.
